Heat continues, but gusty thunderstorms could develop in NYC

NEW YORK (PIX11) — The tri-state region will continue to bake for at least another day as temperatures soar back into the 90s, but dangerous storms could loom late.

Newark set a record high of 99 degrees, according to the National Weather Service, breaking the previous record of 98 degrees set back in 1962.

The heat advisory continues into Wednesday through 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service, as it will feel like the upper 90s. The heat index that high can cause heat-related illnesses, especially for the most vulnerable.

An air quality alert continues to be in effect through 11 p.m. Tuesday, according to the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. Strenuous outdoor physical activities should be limited during this period.
