A young black bear spent Tuesday afternoon perched in a tree in Lyndhurst before wildlife experts sedated it and hauled it off to Sussex County. The yearling caused quite a stir in a Lyndhurst neighborhood but hurt nobody and damaged nothing.
Police got the call around 12:50 p.m. on June 16. Someone had spotted a bear on Webster Avenue. Officers arrived and tracked the animal through backyards on Webster and Jay Avenues, up on the township’s northwest side.
Authorities roped off the area. Day care centers and schools went into shelter-in-place mode. Police told residents to get their pets inside, just to be safe…
