NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A Newport News man is fighting back against what he said is an unfair speed trap after he said he was ticketed for speeding through a school zone in Hampton earlier this year, saying drivers are not given enough time to completely slow down.
And though many people who have been caught driving too fast just pay their fine when they get their ticket in the mail, Mitch Kirsner is not. He went to court, lost, and is now appealing.

At 2:57 p.m. May 13, Kirsner was driving on Big Bethel Road in Hampton in a Bethel High School speed zone, where he admits to driving 35 mph in a 25 mph school zone. The violation and summons include a video of his driving through the school zone, with lights clearly blinking, and the speed limit posted at 25 mph.
