NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – Thousands of Dominion Energy customers in Newport News lost power Friday afternoon.
At the height of the outage, around 2 p.m., Dominion Energy’s map showed more than 13,000 customers without power throughout several neighborhoods.
WAVY reached out to Dominion Energy, which provided information about what caused the large outage. A spokesperson said it had to do with a lightning strike. A safety device on a power line automatically paused the flow of electricity. This interruption temporarily affected about 11,800 customers…
