‘Your loved one is in jail’ scam making rounds on the Peninsula

YORKTOWN, Va. (WAVY)- Officials want to warn people of a scam circulating on the Peninsula.

The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office says scammers are targeting families by calling and claiming that a loved one has been arrested and needs money for bail, attorney fees, or other expenses. They may even pretend to be a law enforcement officer, attorney, or your family member to make the call seem legitimate.

Caller ID can also be spoofed to appear as though the call is coming from a local agency…
