HPD: 24-year-old man arrested in connection with fatal shooting on Michigan Drive

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A 24-year-old man was arrested in connection with a verbal altercation that escalated into the fatal shooting of another man, according to the Hampton Police Division.

On April 2, Hampton Public Safety Communications received a call for a shooting in the 200 block of Michigan Drive at approximately 11:45 p.m. When officers arrived, they found a man, identified as 25-year-old Naysawn Needam, suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. Paramedics declared him deceased.

Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit determined the two men were known to each other. Police said a verbal altercation escalated to a fight and the suspect brandished a firearm and shot the victim. He then fled the scene…
