16-year-old dies after shooting on 34th St. in Newport News
Newport News police responded to a SpotShotter alert on Aug. 20, 2023, in the 600 block of 34th Street at approximately 9:31 p.m.
The call was upgraded to a shooting while the officers were on their way. When they arrived, they found 16-year-old Da’Traevieus Torian suffering from a gunshot wound on a driveway. He later died after being taken to a hospital for his injuries.
“He enjoyed hanging out with his friend and family, playing sports and playing the PlayStation 5. In his free time he spent time with the younger kids in his neighborhood and mentoring at the boys and girls clubs. He had dreams of becoming a engineer, HVAC technician and pipe fitter, so he could open his own business one day,” the C.C. Carter Funeral Home said in Torian’s obituary…
