On April 2, 2026, NC Wildlife Officer John Schlegel received a report that a large American Alligator was dead floating in a canal near Stumpy Point, NC off Highway 264 on the Dare County mainland. A necropsy of the animal by biologist confirmed the Alligator was shot numerous times and had died of its wounds. The Alligator measured nearly 12 feet and was estimated to be 50 years old.
Officer Schlegel and Officer Alex McPhail launched an investigation into the Alligator’s shooting. A member of the public came forward and reported that a video of the incident was circulating on social media. After reviewing the video and through interviews the officers were able to determine 23-year-old Noah Voyles of Chesapeake, VA was involved in the incident…
