Kaiser Permanente, one of the nation’s largest private, not-for-profit health care organizations, will be laying off 147 workers including 12 in Oakland, and 22 in Pleasanton, according to the latest federal government Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filings. The rest of the affected workers are based at Kaiser locations in Southern California.
According to the filings, the Oakland employees affected aren’t frontline service providers. Eleven of them work at 1 Kaiser Plaza, which serves as the national headquarters for Kaiser Permanente Corporate offices; one other works out of the Kaiser Permanente administrative offices on Harrison Street. The layoffs are permanent, according to the filings, and are effective as of Nov. 20.
In an emailed statement to The Oaklandside, a spokesperson for Kaiser Permanente said,“Kaiser Permanente continually evaluates how we organize our work and deploy resources to help ensure high-quality care remains affordable and accessible for our members and patients. We recently notified 147 employees in a number of business and administrative functions that their positions will be eliminated. These positions do not provide direct patient care.”…
