PG&E warns of possible power shutoffs amid wildfire risk for Northern California

CALIFORNIA, USA — People in Northern California could face temporary power shutoffs this weekend as Pacific Gas and Electric tracks dry, windy conditions increasing wildfire risk.

From Sunday, May 17, through Tuesday, May 19, some parts of Colusa, Glenn, Lake, Napa, Sonoma, Tehama, and Yolo counties are under an elevated risk for Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS). PG&E says specific addresses and shutoff maps are typically available two days before an event. No shutoffs are currently expected May 20–21.

PG&E has activated its Emergency Operations Center ahead of a dry offshore wind event Sunday and Monday, which will bring gusty conditions across parts of the North Coast, Sacramento Valley, and Bay Area terrain. According to PG&E, winds could reach 30–45 mph along the North Coast and 25–35 mph in Sacramento Valley, with gusts exceeding 55 mph in elevated Bay Area terrain.
