Bay Area man faces trafficking charges after feds say he poached wild turtles

A Daly City man was arrested this week on suspicion of trying to export nearly 300 protected turtles to Taiwan, federal prosecutors said.

Donald Do faces federal wildlife trafficking charges, which carry a maximum of five years in prison. Prosecutors said he and a co-conspirator secured an export permit from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service based on the false claim that Do had hatched and raised the turtles himself.

In fact, prosecutors said, Do bought loggerhead musk turtles poached from the wild in Florida and other states from December 2022 to May 2024…
