Suspected shoplifter tracked down after fleeing Walmart on electric bicycle

A suspected shoplifter has been tracked down after allegedly fleeing a Walmart in The Villages on an electric bicycle.

Amy Leann Horton, 52, of Leesburg, was arrested Thursday on a warrant charging her with larceny.

She had been sought in connection with an April 2, 2025, theft at the Walmart at Sarasota Plaza. On that day, Horton allegedly entered the store and selected Sparkle paper towels and Tide detergent. The items had a total value of $20.25.

Horton went to the customer service desk and used an old receipt in an attempt to return the items for cash, according to an affidavit from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. When she was refused, she reportedly attempted to leave the store with the merchandise but was confronted by a Walmart employee. She allegedly relinquished the items before fleeing on an electric bicycle…
