Lost dog in Marion County reunited with Georgia rescue nearly 400 miles away

A stray dog brought to Marion County Animal Services in June has made a six-hour journey back to her caretakers in Georgia nearly 400 miles away, thanks to a microchip that traced her origins back to a private rescue organization.

According to MCAS, Valka arrived at the county’s Ocala shelter as a stray early this summer. While initial attempts to reach an owner using her registered microchip contact information were unsuccessful, shelter staff pushed further by tracing the chip back to its original implant facility.

That search revealed Valka had originally been adopted from the Atlanta Humane Society…
