A late-night traffic stop at a Wildwood McDonald’s derailed an Ocala husband and wife’s attempt to sell a used refrigerator — and the more than an ounce of methamphetamine hidden inside it.
Matthew Daniel Hirschlein, 50, and Stephanie Hirschlein, 45, were arrested early Sunday morning after their pickup truck was pulled over in the fast-food restaurant’s parking lot.
According to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy spotted the couple’s white 2003 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck leaving the Pilot Travel Center near Interstate 75 at about 12:25 a.m. Sunday. The truck failed to stop before pulling into the roadway, prompting the deputy to initiate a traffic stop at the nearby McDonald’s at 809 State Road 44.
Matthew Hirschlein told the deputy they were on their way to sell the refrigerator sitting in the bed of the truck. However, the deputy noted that the couple appeared incredibly nervous and actively avoided eye contact during the conversation…
