Known shoplifter allegedly steals $12 in personal care items from Publix

A Leesburg woman was arrested for theft after allegedly stealing two personal care items from Publix.

An officer responded to Publix, located at 717 N 14th St., for a retail theft involving 33-year-old Matasha Renise McCray around 2 p.m. on Aug. 23, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.

An employee told the store manager that McCray, known for shoplifting, was in the store. By the time the manager investigated and tried to find her, she had left. A customer also told the manager that McCray had hidden items in her pants before she left, the report said.

Surveillance footage showed McCray entered the store with nothing but a backpack, which she left at the customer service counter. She then went to aisle 3, selected two personal care items, and paced in and out of the aisle. She eventually left the aisle with nothing in her hands while adjusting her clothes, the report said…
