An early morning water main break has shut down a roadway at Lake Sumter Landing in The Villages.
The 12-inch potable water main broke at about 4:30 a.m. Saturday on Old Mill Run between the Edgewater Bungalows and Creekside Landing.
Due to substantial lifting of the asphalt, both travel lanes and the pedestrian sidewalk on this section of Old Mill Run have been impacted, according to the District Office. As a result, Community Watch has closed the roadway and established a detour.
The closure will affect all motor vehicles, golf carts and pedestrian traffic for several days, as extensive excavation and restoration of asphalt, concrete and landscaping are required. Notably, both travel lanes will need to be restored in accordance with Florida Department of Transportation specifications.
