Elderly man sues Marion County Sheriff’s Office over false arrest, yearlong jail stay

An elderly man who spent a year in jail after he was arrested for grand theft while helping his landlord clean up leaking golf cart batteries owned by another tenant, has filed a lawsuit against the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

Robert W. Dormady filed the lawsuit against several representatives from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office in the Fifth Judicial Circuit Court of Marion County on September 15.

According to the complaint, Dormady was living on a residential property owned by his friend, Tom Brown. Brown leased a separate room on the property to another individual, Gregory Duncan, who had accumulated eight, 6-volt golf cart batteries that were left in the open and actively leaking acid…
