Deputy finds meth in backseat of his patrol car after arrest of suspended driver

A Lady Lake man was arrested for driving with a suspended license, along with marijuana and methamphetamine on his person.

A deputy responded to an undisclosed residence in Lady Lake regarding a suspicious person around 7:25 p.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. He was also investigating allegations of a fight between 37-year-old Derek David Jackson and another person.

During this investigation, the deputy learned Jackson had a revoked driver’s license. He also had active suspensions on his license and three prior convictions for driving while his license had been suspended or revoked, the report said.

Despite this, Jackson pulled up to the back of the residence in a gray 2009 Chevrolet Malibu. A subsequent search of his person yielded a white zipped bag labeled “The Essence” in the right pocket of his shorts. It smelled strongly of marijuana when opened and contained green leafy residue, the report said…
