A man died Saturday afternoon after being struck by a Union Pacific train in central Council Bluffs, according to police.
Council Bluffs police and fire crews were called about 4 p.m. to the area of South 11th Street and Avenue B. Fire Department medics pronounced the man dead at the scene, officials said.
Police said train traffic was stopped for several hours, blocking numerous roadways from 5th Avenue through Avenue G. Train service resumed around 8:30 p.m.
The incident remains under investigation by the Council Bluffs Police Department and Union Pacific Railroad. Police said the man’s name is being withheld until he is positively identified and his next of kin are notified…
