New Gen’s ‘American Gothic’ Haunts Orlando’s Fashion Square Mall

Inside a storefront at Orlando’s Fashion Square Mall, a Great Depression-era town gripped by drought, sickness, and something far stranger than bad luck is coming to life every weekend through August 31. New Gen Theatrical’s latest immersive production, American Gothic: The Harvest Ritual, turns ticket holders into residents of that cursed municipality, handing them plot-driven drinks and pulling them directly into the story rather than letting them just watch from the sidelines.

The show opens Thursday at 8 p.m. at Fashion Square Mall, located at 3201 E. Colonial Drive, and continues on various dates and times through the end of the month, according to Orlando Weekly. Tickets run $37.50 and include two drinks that serve an active role in the story’s harvest ritual, according to the show’s ThunderTix listing, which also warns that the performance contains adult language, offensive humor, and direct physical contact, with actors touching guests during the show. Attendees are encouraged to dress in period-appropriate clothing as everyday life gives way to an otherworldly ritual, and a character called the Reverend has promised the town esoteric solutions to its problems.

Guests do not simply watch the unfolding horror-comedy — they interact with and assist the actors as the story plays out around them. That hands-on approach is by design: in social media disclosures published in July, New Generation Theatrical described its immersive philosophy as giving each audience member a specific character identity and narrative role, rather than merely surrounding spectators with action.

Earlier entries in the series include Gothic Manor, 2023’s Gothic Tavern: The Spirits of Sleepy Hollow, and 2024’s Gothic Seas, each blending horror, comedy, immersive storytelling, and themed drink pairings into a recurring format…
