One woman’s song lifts a community amid Wyandotte County storm cleanup

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) – A woman’s singing carried across a parking lot on Quindaro Saturday as volunteers packed food for neighbors affected by storms that hit the area this week.

Selena Overton-Gant prepped burgers and hot dogs for neighbors at Village Initiative, the fourth day this week volunteers gathered to help those hit by the storms. She sang throughout, including the words, “God has smiled on me.”

“That’s in my heart. That’s what I woke up with this morning,” Overton-Gant said.

“You know, and if this is what it takes to bring us together, amen,” she said.
