A Guatemalan national who was living illegally in the Kansas City, Missouri, area has been sentenced to seven months in federal prison for violating federal immigration laws.
Jose Manuel Lopez-Maderos, 40, pleaded guilty on May 18, 2026, to illegally reentering the United States after previously being deported. The case represents his first federal conviction for illegal reentry.
Independence Police Department officers arrested Lopez-Maderos on Feb. 15, 2026, for driving without a license. Officers confirmed his identity through fingerprints and learned that he had previously been deported.
