Growing up in Westchester County, NY, Cote Tapia-Marmugi’s family would regularly visit Los Andes Bakery in Sleepy Hollow to buy Chilean sweets.
“There are so few of us and so few spots that have Chilean food,” Tapia-Marmugi said. “You just travel to them. It was just this thing that we did.”
Now, she experiences the other side of it. Last year, she opened Copihue Bakehouse, where Chilean customers locally and outside of state travel to Butler Avenue in downtown Ambler to order conejitos (buttery brioche filled with pastry cream) or panqueques (Chilean crêpes filled with seasonal house-made jam)…
