Taste the recipes that inspired Roots Southern Table

FARMERS BRANCH (KDAF) — Louisa “Cookie” Austin will join her daughter, Chef Tiffany Derry, in the kitchen at Roots Southern Table for a “Cookie Is Cooking!” lunch event on Aug. 23. The service will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the restaurant.

The event is part of the restaurant’s signature Soulful Sunday series, which occurs on the fourth Sunday of every month. The one-day lunch celebrates the family traditions and recipes that Austin used to teach Derry how to cook.

Louisa “Cookie” Austin was raised between Port Allen, La., and Beaumont, Texas. For the upcoming event, Austin developed a menu featuring oxtails with gravy, smothered turkey wings, fried catfish, mac and cheese and collard greens.
