SprawlTag first covered this Dallas site on December 30, 2019. At the time, the former Shell station at 6505 East Northwest Highway had already been boarded up. The corner has a longer history than the old gas station suggests. A 1946 aerial image shows the area when Northwest Highway still cut through a much more open landscape. By 1968, a larger building stood at or near this location.
That earlier structure remained in place well into the 1980s, before the corner later became a Shell station. The gas station eventually closed and was already abandoned when SprawlTag covered it in 2019. Years later, the site is still closed. That long vacancy is part of what makes the property interesting. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the empty station briefly found a second use as a rapid testing site. After that faded, the corner returned to limbo…
