WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — South Florida will remain under the influence of a hot, dry Saharan air mass through the start of the week, leading to fewer afternoon storms but increasing concerns about dangerous heat.
A plume of Saharan dust continues to move across the region, creating hazy skies and bringing in much drier air than is typical for mid-July. That drier air makes it more difficult for thunderstorms to develop, especially along the coast. While a few showers and thunderstorms are still expected each afternoon, they will be mainly confined to interior South Florida where sea breezes provide enough lift to spark isolated storms.
The bigger story will be the heat. High temperatures today and Monday will climb into the mid-90s along the east coast and the upper 90s across Southwest Florida. Combined with high humidity, it will feel even hotter, with heat index values reaching 105 to 110 degrees each afternoon…
