Stuart board cracks open debate over backyard chickens

STUART – The majority of the Community Redevelopment Board here voted May 5 to recommend the City Commission amend its land development code to permit residential property owners to maintain up to four backyard chickens, opening up a can of worms that’s been sealed shut for nearly a decade.

Nine years ago the City Commission majority approved the right to two backyard chickens. Before those documents could be officially signed in July 2017, then-Commissioner Jeffrey Krauskopf changed his mind on the controversial topic, swinging the majority against the idea.
