Portland family closer to justice as murder suspect arrested

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — After four long years, a Portland family is one step closer to justice for the murder of their loved one.In April of 2022, a family found itself in the middle of a murder mystery. 44-year-old Jeremy Gurtner’s body was found in the Columbia River Slough near Northeast 105th Avenue and Alderwood Road.

The medical examiner called it a homicide, and the killer was still on the loose.

“I felt devastation,” said Gurtner’s cousin Chrysanthius Lathan. “I also felt a sense of not being safe because we didn’t know who this person was, where they could be out on the street.”

Gurtner’s cousins tell KOIN 6 that they were more like siblings; they were raised together, and losing him was like losing their brother…
