Portland parents, here’s what you need to know before sending your kids to the pool this summer

This summer, kids in Portland and in many other parts of the state will notice a big change in who can come to the pool without an adult.

Since February, Portland Parks and Recreation has enforced a new rule at indoor pools that will apply to outdoor pools once they open for the summer: “Swimmers under the age of 14 must be under the direct supervision of a person aged 18 years or older for all play swims.”

Previously, kids 11 and older could attend without an adult, while kids 10 and under needed a chaperone at least 16 years old…
