PORTLAND, OR — Portland police monitored a large May Day gathering and march on Friday, May 1, 2026, then made a series of arrests tied to trespass, assault, disorderly conduct and other alleged crimes across the day.
The Portland Police Bureau said the march itself was peaceful, but officers also responded to criminal activity before, during and after the downtown and South Portland events.
Early hotel sit-in leads to nine arrests in downtown Portland
Before the main march, officers responded to a hotel in the 1300 block of Southwest 2nd Avenue, where they found eight people sitting on the lobby floor with signs and chanting. More than a dozen supporters left voluntarily, while the eight who remained were warned they could be arrested if they stayed.
Police said those eight were arrested without incident for second-degree criminal trespass. A ninth person, Patrick Eckburg, 28, of Portland, was arrested separately and charged with second-degree disorderly conduct, interfering with public transportation and fourth-degree assault…
