Portland man faces mountain of 50,000 tires dumped on land he just bought

Khanh Tran says he probably has more tires than anyone in Portland right now. That’s because tens of thousands of tires have been illegally dumped on a property he just purchased.

Tran bought a 1.2 acre property near Southeast 154th Avenue and Powell Boulevard in February, believing it was his “dream property.” It was a fresh start not far from his work and a place his newborn could someday run barefoot in the grass.

A small tire pile already sat on the land when he bought it, one he planned to clean up himself. But as first reported by KGW-TV Tran returned in June with a contractor to start building his dream home and found the pile had ballooned into what he estimates at 50,000 to 75,000 tires.

“It was a nightmare when I saw it,” Tran told OPB. “It stressed me out so much. I didn’t know what to do. I couldn’t sleep for the first few days of that.”…
