A swimmer died Sunday after disappearing in the Columbia River near Sand Island at Rooster Rock State Park, prompting a multi-agency search that ended when dive team members located the person’s body.
Deputies from the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call at about 2:05 p.m. July 12 reporting that a person seen swimming near Sand Island appeared to be in distress and did not resurface.
