Driver who struck, killed Tigard mother of 5, in 2023 sentenced to 30 days in jail

The person who authorities say was responsible for the hit-and-run death of a woman — after she was struck on a busy Tigard street almost three years ago — has been sentenced to 30 days in jail.

On Wednesday, July 15, Ashley Nicole Cruz, a Southwest Portland resident, pleaded guilty to failure to perform duties of a driver to seriously injured persons while appearing before a Washington County judge.

The sentence is in connection with the Sept. 18, 2023, death of 45-year-old Maria Del Consuelo Negrete. Tigard police reported at the time that Negrete was trying to retrieve an item that had been thrown out of her car’s window when she was struck. The driver fled the scene…
