PORTLAND, Ore. (July 19, 2026) — More than 1,000 electric bicycle riders helped Portland set a new Guinness World Records title Sunday for the largest electric bicycle ride, surpassing the previous record held by Seattle.
The City of Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) announced that 1,060 participants were officially counted during the event, earning the city the Guinness World Records distinction. PBOT Director Millicent Williams accepted the award during a ceremony at Gov. Tom McCall Waterfront Park, where riders gathered to celebrate the achievement.
The ride began at Salmon Street Springs Fountain, with participants assembling along the Better Naito bikeway before setting off on a two-mile loop through downtown Portland. The route crossed both the Hawthorne and Tilikum bridges before returning to the waterfront.
The new record more than doubled Seattle’s previous mark of 405 riders.
The event also marked the 10th anniversary of Portland’s BIKETOWN bike-share program. Since launching, the system has logged more than 3.9 million rides and has become a growing part of the city’s transportation network…
