Basement laundry room fire forces evacuation of 11 in Vancouver home

VANCOUVER, Wash. (KATU) — A basement fire forced 11 people from their home Saturday afternoon in Vancouver, but firefighters were able to put it out before it spread into the structure of the house.

Vancouver Fire Department said crews responded shortly after 2:30 p.m. Aug. 15 to a reported residential structure fire in the 16300 block of Northeast 99th Street. People in the house reported smoke coming from an unknown location inside the home.

Firefighters arriving at the scene determined the fire was in the basement. After confirming everyone had safely evacuated, crews entered the house and went down the basement stairs, where they located and extinguished a fire in the laundry room…
