Portland’s most creative cat owners are opening their backyards for a tour, and one has a miniature ‘Pawthorne’ Bridge

Anne Goetz of Portland has never had a cat, but each summer she looks forward to the creativity on display at the Catio Tour, where she can see different types of screened cat patios for felines to play safely outdoors.

Goetz joins a caravan of people who want to protect birds from free-roaming felines and marvel at suspended perches that allow cats to exercise, play out hunting instincts and snooze in the sun without facing outdoor hazards, like cars, predators and poisons.

The 14th Annual Catio Tour from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, has stops in Southeast Portland. Tickets are $15 (CatsSafeAtHome.org) and include a guidebook with details of the outdoor enclosures, including materials and costs…
