Residential fire in SE Portland brings down power lines, closes street; no injuries reported

A fire Monday morning caused significant damage to a Southeast Portland apartment building, bringing down power lines and closing part of Stark Street near Mount Tabor Park during the morning commute, fire officials said.

The fire was reported shortly after 6 a.m., and responding firefighters found “heavy flames impinging upon the structure.” Crews worked to extinguish the fire in the building’s attic while other firefighters focused on protecting the area around the downed power lines.

Portland Fire & Rescue received assistance from Gresham Fire crews. Portland fire officials said the initial address they received was inaccurate, forcing firefighters to cut through a thick fence with a chainsaw to reach the fire…
