PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Late summer sunsets are slipping away as Portland experienced its final 8 p.m. sunset of 2026 on Tuesday.
Portland’s been experiencing earlier sunsets and later sunrises over the last few weeks. A total of 85 minutes of light are lost during the month of August. The later sunrises and earlier sunsets will continue to take place through the winter solstice on December 21.
The shrinking daylight time will start the cooling process that’s underway for the Northern Hemisphere. Cooler nights and days will also help trees to share their fall color in the weeks to come.
