A hiker on Mount Hood who lost his way in thick clouds and heavy rain was rescued over the weekend thanks to the effort of volunteers.
On Saturday evening, Sept. 5, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office received reports of a stranded hiker on the south side of the mountain. The hiker had ascended from Timberline Lodge earlier that morning up to 4,000 feet. He veered off course during the descent due to decreased visibility from the conditions. That led him to be stranded at the top of a waterfall in the lower Big Zig Zag Canyon.
While the hiker was uninjured, he was very wet and cold, and unable to navigate the complex terrain on his own…
