A rare bird sighting at Metro’s Broughton Beach has attracted birders from as far away as Oklahoma and Alaska, hoping to catch a glimpse of this unusual appearance.
Blue rock-thrushes are common in some parts of the world, but only one has ever been seen before in Oregon. This particular subspecies is native to parts of East and Southeast Asia, making its appearance in Portland so rare that it is considered a “Code 5” bird sighting by the American Birding Association.
