‘We want the Blazers to stay’: MultCo opts in to oversee Moda Center remodel

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – The Multnomah County Board of Commissioners has opted into the Joint Authority Agreement that will oversee the Moda Center renovation. The move officially gives the county a seat at the table during the project, alongside the state and the City of Portland.

This comes from the Senate Bill 1501 passed earlier this year, that first set aside money for the project. But joining onto the agreement does not release county funds yet, that is still in the works. It also does not make the county co-owners of the arena. It does mean they will have a direct role in an arena renovation, and maintenance beyond that.

“The Blazers mean a great deal to this community, and it’s our job to help secure their future here,” Multnomah County COO Christopher Neal said during his presentation to the Board of Commissioners on October 1.

The board voted unanimously to pass the resolution that would give the county a seat on the Joint Authority. Neal said the seat ensures the county can work closely with the other partners financing the project throughout the duration…
