PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — On Feb. 22, 2022, Portland was blindsided by the second-largest single-day snowstorm in the city’s history. Hundreds of people were forced to abandon their cars along impassable city streets and interstate highways that evening and many more abandoned their responsibilities to play in the snow, which was piled nearly a foot high by morning.
While Portland isn’t expected to see another massive snowstorm in February 2024, KOIN 6 Meteorologist Josh Cozart said that another unusual single-day snowstorm is possible.
Silence after the storm: Portland residents seek answers, reform over county’s lack of response
“Portland seeing another February snowstorm or arctic blast isn’t out of the question,” Cozart said. “Right now, nothing points us in that direction, but historically we’ve seen some pretty intense winter storms move through western Oregon and Washington during the second month of the year.”
