Portland’s Phở Hùng brings a family legacy of Vietnamese comfort food

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A picture taken outside of Phở Hùng on Powell captures co-owner Donna Shinagawa as a little girl with her mother, Buu Lam.

A lot has changed since it opened in 1990. But the Portland restaurant is still a steady presence on Southeast Powell Boulevard and 47th Avenue.

In the kitchen, giant pots of broth can fill up 500 bowls in a day. A constant for customers who come for the Vietnamese food — especially, the fragrant bowls of beef noodle soup known as “pho.”…
