PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A Portland child care facility for families of health care workers is set to close this summer.
KinderCare Learning Companies’ Healthy Starts Learning Center at Oregon Health and Science University will shutter in June, OHSU confirmed to KOIN 6 on Monday. KinderCare spokesperson Colleen Moran said the company has failed to find a “sustainable path forward” after 16 years of operating the facility.
“The simple fact is that the center has operated at a loss for several years, due to a combination of factors, including lower enrollments, rising operational costs, and dramatically increased rent,” Moran added, in part, in a statement. “Before 2020, the center was a popular choice for OHSU employees. But as many administrative roles shifted to remote work, families began using their KinderCare tuition benefits in centers closer to their homes.”…
