Local grocery chain sells its last store to Market of Choice

After a whirlwind eight-year run that saw its Portland-area footprint slashed from six grocery stores to just one, Basics Market has officially sold its last location.

Chuck Eggert, Basics Market founder and former co-owner of Tualatin-based Pacific Foods, opened the chain’s Northeast Portland flagship in 2018. At its peak, the Oregon grocer operated six stores across Portland, Beaverton and Tualatin.

Its largest location — a 40,000-square-foot store in Aloha — closed in 2024 after less than two years, leaving behind just one remaining grocery in Portland’s Hillsdale Shopping Center…
