Market of Choice to replace Portland grocer’s last remaining store

PORTLAND, Oregon — Oregon’s largest independent, family-owned grocer, Market of Choice, announced Monday that it will take over Basics Market in Portland’s Hillsdale neighborhood.

The acquisition will expand Market of Choice’s store count to 13 statewide and five in the Portland metro area — and reduce Basics Market’s to zero.

After opening in 2018, Basics Market grew to six grocery stores across Portland, Beaverton and Tualatin. But its footprint began to shrink, leaving one remaining store in Portland’s Hillsdale Shopping Center…
