Starting this year, kids under 14 will need adult supervision at Oregon public pools

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — If your kid wants to go swimming this summer, you will need to have an adult with them, according to a new Oregon state law.

The Oregon pool code, OAR 333-062-1000, 6.4.2.2.3(14), requires minor swimmers under the age of 14 to be under the direct supervision of a person aged 18 years or older in order to swim at a public pool. The code went into effect on Feb. 2.

“Upon entering the facility for swimming, the front counter/desk staff will check the age of the swimmer. If the individual scanned in with a pass, the front desk staff can verify them through our registration system. We then issue the appropriate bracelet to the youth participant based on the following criteria: under 48 inches tall; under 14 years old and over 48 inches tall; or 14 years old or older,” Portland Parks & Recreation officials said…
