Used cooking oil thefts hit Lake Oswego restaurants; thieves break locks to siphon grease

LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. (KATU) — Some Lake Oswego restaurants and local oil companies are sounding the alarm over a series of strange thefts involving used cooking oil.

Local restaurants across town report that used cooking oil containers, that are often shared with neighboring businesses, are being broken into and siphoned.

It’s unclear right now why thieves are targeting the grease, but the owner of Momo Sushi & Grill, Kevin Long, said it’s likely being stolen to be refined and used to make biofuel, industrial lubricants, and more, for reselling…
