Mount Hood climber shares raw experience, highlighting dangers

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) –  Summiting Mount Hood is a bucket list adventure for many people, but one viral hiker wants to educate people about the risks that come with the climb.

According to Portland Mountain Rescue, May and June are popular months for Hood Mountain climbers, as well as some of the most dangerous months where the organization receives the most calls. One viral outdoor influencer, Abby Nita, trekked the mountain and decided to vlog her experience.

Despite being an experienced hiker, Nita said that the summit was difficult and there were many aspects of the climb that she did not expect because of the lack of information about the climb. Her vlog captured some of the raw emotions she dealt with, ranging from nerves to panic to euphoria.

“I feel like social media really glorifies and romanticizes mountaineering. People don’t really talk about the dangers. They post their summit photos or cool-looking videos, but never really share their actual experience.” Nita told KOIN, ” I’m not sure if it’s because of ego or what, but I wish there had been more information out there to prepare me beforehand.”…
