The Vietnamese restaurant that’s bringing Hanoi’s street food culture to Southeast Portland

Portland has always been known for buzzworthy cuisine. But last month the city earned even more street cred by getting its first starred review from The New York Times.

Married couple Quynh Nguyen and Gian Carlo Reinardy have been the co-owners and co-chefs since The Paper Bridge opened in 2023. The Southeast Portland restaurant’s namesake is a direct translation of where the couple lived in Vietnam.

The inside recreates the bustling Cầu Giấy district of Hanoi, Vietnam’s capital city. On their website, Nguyen and Reinardy describe the neighborhood as being a popular hub for wet markets and street food in the city.

The menu lists a wide variety of small bites and larger meals, fruit teas and rice wines. Not knowing where to start, we turned to the staff for guidance. They were knowledgeable and considerate of our dietary restrictions…
